There are periods of the year when flowers bloom on the surface of the Rara Lake, since it is situated at 2,990 meters above sea level and does not experience frequent changes in weather.

During the summer season (June to August), there is heavy rainfall, so rivers and streams will rise above their normal levels. If you are interested in doing this heli tour during the summer, you can still try it, even though the weather isn’t so good; flight cancellations and delays may occur.

Autumn (September – November) is also a good time for Rara Lake Helicopter Tours. There is no rain during this time, so the skies are clear and the views of the mountains are stunning. In general, it is not recommended to do this tour during the winter months (December through February). There is a reasonable distance between Kathmandu and Rara Lake. It takes approximately an hour and fifteen minutes to travel from Kathmandu to Rara Lake via Nepalgunj. This flight is captivating and full of thrills and joy. Some of the famous rivers in Rara National Park are Karnali, which roars downward to Rara Lake. First, we will stop at Nepalgunj airport, a small yet beautiful airport with a beautiful mountain backdrop. Depending on weather conditions, season, and availability, we will spend approximately four hours at Rara Lake.

Kathmandu To Nepalgunj

As soon as we depart from Kathmandu’s domestic terminal at Tribhuvan International Airport, we will begin our journey to Rara. As soon as you board the helicopter, you will be able to see the vast majority of the landscapes almost immediately. The flight from Kathmandu airport to Nepalgunj takes approximately 40 minutes.

Taking the flight to Nepalgunj brings us closer to Rara as we continue west. Kathmandu is beautifully surrounded by the lush green hills as we move west.

Compared to Kathmandu, Nepalgunj lies in the lower Terai region, making it a shorter, but exciting helicopter flight. From here, we will begin our journey towards the Himalayas. Taking the same route back to Kathmandu, we spend some quality time at the Rara Lake. As it is a long distance between Rara Lake and Kathmandu, we stop at Nepalgunj for fueling purposes before we return to Kathmandu. From Rara to Nepalgunj, you begin to descend to a lower altitude. As the temperature rises and the landscape changes, you will begin to notice this.

Nepalgunj To Kathmandu

Our Rara Lake Helicopter Tour in Nepalgunj ends when we fly back to Kathmandu. We spend less than 15 minutes at the airport before boarding the flight back to Kathmandu.

Phase 01: Flying from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj

In the morning, you will drive to Tribhuvan International airport for the Rara Lake Helicopter tour. Our marketing officers need your passport and two passport-sized photos to apply for the permits, but you are not required to obtain them since the permits are included in the tour package.
