The main attraction of Markhu is Nepal Largest manmade lake- Indra Sarobar. Indra Sarobar is the nearest lake from Kathmandu Valley. The size of the lake is 7 kilometers that you will not believe that it is a manmade lake. Kulekhani Dam created this lake. It lies at the deep gorge between Kulekhani Village development committee and Markhu.  You will be amazed after seeing the beauty of Indra Sarobar Lake.

A lake like this cannot be described in words. You may have seen various lakes in movies and wished you could visit them once in your life. Now is the time to experience a lake like that one for yourself. One of the most beautiful lakes in Nepal is the reflection of the sun light on its water during sunrise and sunset. In general, it is the most beautiful lake in Nepal.

Boating in Indra Sarobar

There are many things to do in Indra Sarobar, including boating. The view from outside and inside the lake are both stunning. Only a small part of the lake can be accessed by boat. For Nepalese, boating is priced at NRP 110 and for foreigners, about NRP 500 (I’m not sure about foreigners’ rates).

A life jacket will be provided to each participant (at no additional charge). Boating takes about 30 minutes. If you wish to explore the whole lake, you can hire a boat for an additional fee.

Itinerary 

Day 1:Kathmandu to Markhu

It is possible to see the beautiful mountain ranges of Mt. Gaurishanker, Dorje Lakpa, Langtang, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Mt. Everest, API, etc., if the weather and climate are favorable on that day. One of the largest artificial dams in the world is located here. You can visit this region while traveling from Chandragiri.

You can stay in beautiful hotels in markhu, enjoy the local foods and rural life in this village, and enjoy the hydroelectricity produced by this dam. The lake is called Indrasarobar, and boating is very common and cheap here, so anyone can enjoy boating. 

Day 2:Drive back to Kathmandu 

During our hike in Chitlang, we enjoy stops at historical monuments like Pauwa, Saat Dhara (seven water faucets), Shivalaya, and some other archaeological monuments as we relax before starting our hike.

A 1.5-hour hike brought us to Kulekhani. After lunch, we drove back to Kathmandu. We passed Dakshinkali Temple (a Hindu goddess temple) and a Buddhist monastery in Pharping.
