Chitlang Organic Village Resort

Chitlang

An ancient Newar village in Nepal, Chitlang is dominated by a tribal, and cultural group called the Newar. It holds a rich historical significance since it was one of the most popular stops on the old trade routes from Tibet to India, surrounded by the Chandragiri mountains. Located only a short distance from Kathmandu, Chitlang is the most popular hiking destination. The area is home to more than 100 species of birds, making it a heaven for ornithologists.

Mr. Debendra Nepal is credited with starting tourism in Chitlang with Chitlang Organic Village Resort, the first resort founded at Chitlang in 2010.

Chitlang’s cold can be easily digested by the warm welcome of homestays and resorts. Additionally, travel fatigue disappears quickly. Homestays and resorts offer a host of sights and tranquil landscapes throughout the day, including historical and cultural village tours, campfires, and dances.

In this Chitlang Organic Village Resort, you can stay in a Cottage accommodation for NRs. 2,000 per person.

Chitlang Homestays

Many internal tourists search for Chitlang Homestays to learn more about the culture, traditions, and lifestyle of the people of Chitlang Village.

Chitlang Homestays
Chitlang Homestays

The term “homestay” refers to fooding and accommodation at home of people from the area concerned which aren’t intended to serve customers.

The Chitlang Homestays offer a glimpse into the daily activities of the people of the chosen home, such as what is served, how it is made, and how it is arranged for dining.

The following are common to most Nepalese homes, too, if you’re thinking of chitlang homestays.

  • Generally, in villages, food is not cooked with gas cylinders, and gas stoves. Rather, wood is used for fire, and a special type of stove called “CHULO” is used.
  • You aren’t going to eat by sitting on Table. You’re supposed to sit on the Ground in which a Special type of sheet is laid. In Nepali, We call it “Gunri”. Gunri is basically made up of Paddy Straw. If you would like to know how it was made, You can watch this Video: Nepali Gundri of paddy straw in Rural Nepal.
  • Occasionally, you may be served with thicker rice.
  • Curry will be prepared with fresh vegetables.

Chitlang Tour Highlights

  • It is well known throughout Nepal that Chitlang’s Organic Vegetables are of the highest quality.
  • It is more famous to stay at Chitlang Homestays.
  • There is nothing better than being away from the bustle and hustle of the city in a peaceful, beautiful place.
  • It is through this village that people go on the Indra Sarovar Trek.
  • The village and forest around the village are full of Rhododendron, which is the national flower of Nepal. The flowers are even edible.
  • Chitlang offers goat cheese, and you won’t find a better cheese anywhere else.
  • Laxmi Prasad Devkota wrote this wonderful song “Kun Mandir Ma Janchau Yatri” while He was in Chitlang.

Chitlang History

Chitlang is also known for its connection to Nepal’s greatest poet, Laxmi Prasad Devkota. Laxmi Prasad Devkota had written the song “Kun Mandir Ma Janchau Yatri” (which basically means “Which Temple do you go to?” in English) in 1998 while living in Chitlang.

During his visit to Makwanpur, Devkota saw pilgrims on their way from India to see Pashupati Darshan, which prompted him to compose the song. His fountain of water and stone can still be seen today.

Chitlang as a Place on Major Trading Route Before Tribhuwan Highway

Prior to the construction of the Tribhuvan Highway, or byroad, traders used to cross the Chitlang trails to gain access to the valley as a major trading route. The ancient foot trail that extends from Thankot to Chandragiri Pass, Chitlang, and Kulekhani has lost its glory after the highway was constructed in the south. The ancient foot trail, however, has lost its glory as a result of the construction of the highway.

Chitlang Bounce Back as Tourist Hub

The tourism sector in Chitlang is booming, with more than a dozen homestays and half a dozen resorts operating in Chitlang as well as two new resorts being constructed. This indicates that investors are investing a lot of money in the sector.

It is popular among tourists to hike in Chitlang Valley and its surrounding areas, and many also enjoy cycling along green paddy terraces.

The village of Markhu will soon become a tourist village. The village of Chitlang is home to over 1,000 visitors per week, according to Tara Bahadur Basnet, president of the Homestay Operators Committee.

Major Attraction of Chitlang

Get Close With Nature

In Chitlang, you will often see hills teeming with greenery. This famous landmark- intriguing pear farms- is often evident in social media posts.

In any case, I would like to point out that here, at the crack of dawn, you can enjoy peaceful walks because the light of the rising sun gradually chases away the darkness, and the surrounding hills become stunningly green as a result. It is also worth mentioning that you might like to explore the nearby forest, which is home to many birds. Bird watching is definitely one of the things that you should not miss when in Chitlang.

Shivalaya

There are fine wood carvings on the bricks that make up this ancient structure, which is located in the second ward of the village. Nepal’s fine arts, artistry, and craftsmanship are reflected in the décor of the building. In addition to the decorative artistic pillars and the Tunal Arts, the architectural style of the building is also noteworthy.

Shivalaya - Ancient Structure of Chitlang
Shivalaya – Ancient Structure of Chitlang

Architectural resources of cultural tourism are in urgent need of renovation and conservation due to their deterioration. Located on the extreme north-east side of Chitlang, this legendary structure is situated near Bhimphedi, a strategic point for the journey to and from Kathmandu before the advent of the modern world. It is an ancient temple dedicated to Shiva, with three Gajurs.

Asoka Chaita

In the Thaha Municipality, this temple was built by King Asoka of Magadh during the Kirat era when he came to Nepal. He also built several other Chaitya temples during this time as well. Every year, on the occasion of Buddha’s birthday, the Buddhists of Kathmandu gather here to celebrate.

Kartik Purnima Naach

Chitlang’s Naach culture, also known as Kartik Punhi Jatra, is one of the most famous in the world. This is the oldest culture of the Newars, and is celebrated not only for the sake of preserving its history, but also to attract tourists. This “Naach” is for five days and took place in Mazgaon Chitlang-5. The dance “Naach” is beautiful and attractive and worships several gods and goddesses at the same time.

SatDhara

Traditionally, the seven stone taps close to the gods Ganesh, Shiva, Krishna, and Saraswoti were used to provide water for the gods. This is why the name ‘Saatdhara’ is derived. Almost all of the Katush trees surround the place, creating the illusion of a natural garden.

SatDhara - Chitlang
SatDhara – Chitlang

A colorful festival is celebrated at Satdhara every year on the day of Basanta Panchami where the locals worship Goddess Saraswati and pay their respects.

Goat Farming

It lies at a distance of 5 KM from the resort and is the largest grazing land in Nepal. Previously, there was sheep farming there. Chitlang has taken the initiative to make goat cheese with the assistance of the firm.

As a result of goat milk, the goat cheese factory in Nepal is well known and important. This industry is also well established in Chitlang. In addition to earning income, this industry produces the majority of the cheese in Nepal and distributes it throughout the country.

Explore The Neighbourhood

Upon entering yet another part of Chitlang, you will experience a variety of cultures and lifestyles because it is a hushed neighborhood home to various castes. Old brick structures in some parts of the village are adorned with dried chili and maize hanging on the window sills, as if they were taken from a Newar settlement in Kathmandu, while others have been painted brown organically.

It is a quaint village full of surprises, from hidden waterfalls to abandoned old houses.

If you’re searching for the best place to stay near Kathmandu with Adventure, Sukute Beach Resort can be your Best Choice in which you can even do rafting., Also, Dhulikhel Resort is near to the Kathmandu, and it takes only an hour to reach Dhulikhel from Kathmandu.

Bhaleshwor Mahadev — Mythological Significance

According to Himvatakhanda, Bhaleshwor Mahadev appeared at the location where Satidevi’s ‘Bhala’, or forehead, had fallen off.

After Daksha Prajapati insulted Shiva in front of scores of gods and goddesses invited to the religious ceremony, Sati Devi, Shiva’s consort, is believed to have sacrificed herself by jumping into the fire pyre during her father’s yagna (sacred fire ritual). As Shiva walked around the world as a madman for a long period of time, he carried her dead body on his back and did not take note of Satidevi’s decomposing body as he walked across the globe. During Lord Shiva’s mourning, a number of ‘shakti-centers’ were established at the different sites where parts of Satidevi’s body fell.

The site of Bhaleshwor Mahadev’s appearance was transformed into a temple.

A low-ranking Hindu deity known as Gandharva, also referred to as Sumukha, is also associated with the legend of Bhaleshwor Mahadev. Sumukha forced Rambha, a courtier who recently retired from Heaven, which is considered Indra’s kingdom. Sumukha was then cursed by Rambha for his misdemeanor, and he was forced to leave his abode in heaven in order to live on earth.

A sage named Galab offered Sumukha a way out of the curse he was living in while he wandered around the mortal world living under the curse. He advised Sumukha to do this after performing daily penances and offering prayers before Bhaleshwor Mahadev, whom Sumukha followed. Once Mahadev had complied with the demands, he blessed Sumukha and arranged her marriage to Rambha. Bhaleshwor also took Sumukha into his home as his personal assistant as well.

Halesi Mahadev Temple Tour

Haleshi Mahadev Temple Entry Point on Night

Located in eastern Nepal, Halesi Mahadev is located in a natural cave on a small hill. It is believed that the temple has existed for at least 6000 years and is situated within a beautiful and mysterious natural cave. Dudh Koshi and Sun Koshi flow through the temple, and it is believed to have been established for at least 6000 years.

Halesi Mahadev is a temple that contains three mysterious caves that are thought to represent Lord Shiva’s three eyes. In addition to serving as a revered religious site and a popular tourist destination, the Halesi cave is 67 feet below ground. It is customary to perform special ceremonial rites at Haleshwor Mahadev.

Table of Contents

Cave

A revered religious place and a popular tourist destination, this cave is located 67 feet underground. In the entrance, it is shaped like a half moon and faces east. It has a circular shape with a distance of 193 feet with a separate cave beneath, and a floor circumference of 223 feet.

Haleshi Mahadev Cave - Maratika
Haleshi Mahadev Cave – Maratika

History

According to a Hindu myth, Shiva fled Halesi from a demon called Bhasmasura, whose purpose was to kill him, and fled to Halesi. When Shiva broke through the ceiling of the cave and fled, Vishnu tricked the monster and killed him. As Shiva Mahadeva stepped on the wall before disappearing from the hole, he is said to have left a large footprint on the ceiling of the wall. This woodland was used to hunt by a Rai caste hunter centuries later.

The hunting dog and he searched for the deer in the bushes, but neither returned after the deer ran into the bushes. The villagers helped them find a cave in the bushes. A Shivalinga wrapped in a serpent was found in the cave when they entered it, which surprised them. They became overjoyed to see it and started worshiping it as a Shivalinga place.

A Tibetan Buddhist named the place Halesi after visiting it and pronounced “holyasso,” a Tibetan word for “place of wonders.” The word became distorted and people called it Halesi as a result. Maratika is regarded as a sacred place in Hindu tradition where “all three mandalas have been completed, a jewel that surpasses any other place in India in fulfilling spiritual seekers’ wishes.”

Buddhism reveres it as the place where the great Guru Rimpoche, Padmasambhava attained immortality through meditation.

Major Attractions

It is interesting to visit Halesi’s cave shrine because of its geological features. It is common to find caves and potholes surrounding the small hamlet of Halesi with naturally created cavities, leading to a variety of rock constructions. A wide variety of pilgrims cross these narrow corridors, and now these corridors are known as paapdwaras, dharmadwaras, garbhadwaras, svargadwaras, and karmadwaras.

It has been said that Halesi Mahadev is a mysterious sign from the gods and is one of the world’s most astonishing geological formations. It is believed that the founder of the Kirat religion originated here, and Hindus venerate Halesi Mahadev as one of their six main pilgrimage sites. Buddhists venerate Halesi as one of their six key pilgrimages.

Many people come here to perform soul searching, religious and spiritual quests for salvation, and it is regarded as a mystical and spiritual location in Nepal.

Sikles Trek - Explore Sikles Village, Kapuche Lake

Sikles Village

You can enjoy an unspoiled natural environment and encounter traditional cultures throughout the Sikles Trek, located northeast of Pokhara in the Annapurna Region.

As the second largest Gurkha community in Nepal, Sikles village is situated above the Mardi river. Prince Charles of England visited this village in 1980 to show his appreciation for the Gurkhas.

There are many things that make trekking to Sikles longing for every trekker, in addition to the breathtaking mountain views, cultivated land, terraced fields, traditional houses, stone-paved paths, Gumbas, and chirping birds. The route is covered in dense rhododendron woods throughout, and there are lots of chirping birds.

Shaman practice, rituals and ceremonies can be observed on certain occasions in the village, making it a very fascinating place for outsiders to see. The village is mostly inhabited by Gurungs and ex-Gurkhas who served in the Second World War.

Despite its less explored location, this region will offer you unforgettable experiences and heartwarming memories.

There were many aspects of this trek that we thoroughly enjoyed: we explored handmade local handicrafts, we watched Begnas Tal (lake) – the second largest lake in the region after Phewa Lake, we tasted local foods, and we observed their culture, tradition, and lifestyle among other things.

There are also beautiful villages on the way to Sikles village, including Taprang, Chipli Gaun, and Khilang, but they are smaller settlements compared to Sikles. On the way to Sikles village, you will see gorgeous mountains and green hills welcoming you.

On a small hill at a height of 1980 meters, Sikles is a beautiful Gurung Community village. After reaching Sikles, you will be captivated by its cultural and traditional beauty. Take a village tour and learn about local culture, architecture, and traditions. People are friendly and helpful at the same time. You can also visit the Eco-Museum.

A view tower offers a great view of the whole village, as well as the opportunity to climb it. Similarly, it is also possible to hike up to Sikles Park and Rising Dada, which will take around 30 minutes for the average hiker, from where you will have a mesmerizing view of the Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal, and other mountains. In Sikles, you can stay overnight in a village tea house/lodge.

Day 2: Trek from Sikles to Huwu (Hugu) (Altitude 2100 m).

In the morning, you will have breakfast before setting off on your first trek day on the 7th of May 2011 to the village of Huwu following the stone stairway and stone path. Once you cross the village of Sikles, you can see some of the most magnificent mountains in the world such as Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal up close.

Afterwards, you’ll descend on the same trails and see the Edi Jharna waterfall (64 m), which is an adventurous walk. Upon returning from the waterfall, you’ll continue your trek and ascend uphill. A steep and large stone path leads you through small rivers and bridges before finally reaching Huwu village. After some pictures and a short rest, you will resume your trek.

There is a lot of greenery in the route between Sikles and Hugu, a forest path, a riverbank sidewalk, and an overall amazing experience. Hugu is about six hours away. On the way, there are no rest stops or villages. You may come across some villages along the way. The basic tea house in Huwu will be where you will stay overnight sleeping on mats and sleeping bags.

Day 3: Trek from Huwu to Kahphuche Lake (Altitude 2450 m) and back to Sikles (Altitude 1980 m)

A trek from Huwa to Kahphuche Lake is scheduled for early in the morning today. The Kahphuche Lake is the lowest glacial lake in Nepal. It lies at 2,450 meters above sea level. The trek is relatively short and easy compared with other trails on your journey. It takes 2 hours to reach crystal clear Kahphuche Lake, after which you’ll enjoy the beautiful mountain range and peaceful wildlife.

Kapuche Lake
Kapuche Lake

Kahphuche Lake provides you with beautiful scenery, surrounded by mountains with a crystal clear blue lake in front. There are no words or lenses that can adequately describe the beauty of this lake. If you are lucky, you’ll get to see an avalanche from Annapurna II. You’ll return to Huwa village after spending time and taking some pictures. And then you’ll go back to Sikles as you did previously. It will take you less time to return than it did to arrive.

Day 4: Drive back to Pokhara.

After having breakfast, the hotel owner leaves you with a traditional farewell as he bids Tika farewell. Then you drive back to Pokhara.

Beyond Champa Devi

From Champa Devi’s summit, you can continue down and up to the fishtail’s unnamed western peak – which is actually a slightly higher peak, standing at 2286 metres, which is actually slightly higher than Champa Devi’s summit. It is reasonable to estimate that it will take you one hour (or slightly less) to continue west along the ridge, where you will follow a well-made path down to a saddle and then ascend to a higher peak (2509m).

A couple of hours or so further, one will find another ridge that traces south for about an hour and a half, and this route will bring you up to the highest peak of the range, Bhasmesur (2622m). According to legend, this peak was built by Vishnu, who tricked the evil demon into incinering himself.

In the west of the Bhasmesur spur, there is a path that departs from the ridge and heads north (even if the ridge-line is a little confused – and there are illegal charcoal burn pits which contribute to that confusion as well), then descends a steep and seemingly endless stone staircase to the village of Machegaon (90 minutes downhill), from where there are various trails and roads leading back to Kirtipur.
